Rose Hill Cemetery is located in East Fort Worth. It was very quiet on a Sunday morning. Piper and I were the only ones around before 10 a.m. After a bit of searching we could not find Lee Harvey Oswald in Section 17. Fortunately, the section numbers were printed on the curb and an image from Find A Grave was very helpful. The ground was very dewy. Our shoes were getting soaked. Don’t ask me how I got so lucky, but I did. Not only did I get the chance to meet Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Robert Jackson, he also sat for a few photos for my JFK project at The Sixth Floor Museum. Mr. Jackson is famous for his photograph of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald in the basement of the Dallas Police Headquarters.

Before I photographed Mr. Jackson, I got a chance to hear him speak (read Photographer Bob Jackson and Detective James Leavelle at The Sixth Floor Museuem). As an added surprise I discovered that Dallas Police Det. James Leavelle, who was handcuffed to Oswald when he was shot, was in the audience that day. I got a couple of photos of Det. Leavelle while he was signing autographs. I talked to Det. Leavelle about posing for my JFK project at a later date. He gave me his contact information. Dick Dale and Jimmy Dale at the Dallas Museum of Art

Dick Dale and his son, Jimmy Dale, put on a great performance last night at the Dallas Museum of Art for their Summer Block Party. The concert was held in the Ross Avenue Plaza at the north end of the museum. It wasn’t standing room only, but the place sure was packed.

Dick Dale and Jimmy played an hour long set of only acoustic guitars. Wow! They can really make those string sing. They started out with Ghost Riders in the Sky and ended with Miserlou and a new song, which sounds really cool.

Dick Dale at the Summer Block Party

Tonight I will be attending the Summer Block Party at the Dallas Museum of Art. My main objective is to see legendary guitarist Dick Dale, who will be performing in the Ross Ave. Plaza.

For those that don’t know, Dick Dale is most famous for his song Miserlou, which is the opening song for the movie Pulp Fiction.

Not sure if I can manage a Holga. I’ll be taking DART downtown with a LL Bean folding chair. I definitely want to take my Nikon with my 300mm lens. Too many cameras, so few hands.

See you after the concert.

Abraham Zapruder at Emanu-El Cemetery

Emanu-El Cemetery
3430 Howell Street, Dallas, Texas

Farther south on Central Expressway and Hall can be found the Emanu-El Cemetery. This is a smaller cemetery with what looks like mostly Jewish graves. I asked for help locating Abraham Zapruder from the gardener. I knew the section and so he pointed the area out to me. Zapruder is located just south of the mausoleum near the road. His headstone has a small magnolia tree growing over it. The tree is the size of a bush at present. Zapruder’s marker also includes his spouse. Judge Sarah Hughes at Sparkman-Hillcrest Memoria Park

Sparkman-Hillcrest Memorial Park
7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas

I visited the SHMP today to find Judge Sarah Hughes and a few other notable people. After roaming the mausoleum for some time, I had to ask for help locating Judge Hughes. Upon returning to the SHMP receptionist another visitor has their car broke into and their purse stolen. The lot is close to the sidewalk and Northwest Highway. I checked my Yukon for any damage and there wasn’t any. One of the receptionists said her purse was still in her car. I can’t believe that two women in the same location think it is acceptable to leave a purse in plain site in a car. Continue reading “Judge Sarah Hughes at Sparkman-Hillcrest Memoria Park”
