I learned that Lee Harvey Oswald’s original coffin will be auctioned off in California. This is a bizarre piece of news, but it is true.
Allen Baumgardner, assistant embalmer for Oswald in 1963 and official embalmer for his exhumation in 1981, kept the original coffin. Oswald’s body was exhumed to determine that the remains were really Oswald an not a look-alike Soviet agent.
After Oswald’s exhumation in 1981, a new coffin was required to bury Oswald.
The Dallas Morning News reported the coffin, auctioned off on December 16, 2010, fetched $87,468. The winning bidder wanted to remain anonymous.
