Officer J.D. Tippit and Musician Stevie Ray Vaughan at Laurel Land

Laurel Land is located in South Dallas, also known as Oak Cliff. I had to ask for directions to the proper section. It was a sunny day with people out visiting loved ones.

Officer Tippit is located along a fence where the road meanders and the burial ground shrink.  This is my way of saying the skinny part of the cemetery between the road and the fence.

Officer Tippit is buried next to Officer Carl Jackson Cooke (died May 2, 1972).

From the Officers Down Memorial Page website, I see Officer Cooke was shot and killed responding to a robbery call at a grocery store. Cooke was shot three times. He was able to return fire. Officer Cooke died at Methodist Hospital. He was a one year veteran of the Dallas Police Department.

I took photos with my iPhone, Nikon and Holga cameras. I texted an image to my mother who said her son sees dead people. I object. I only see the names and final resting places of dead people. I have not seen one body yet.

I drove around a while until I realize finding Stevie Ray Vaughan on my own was not going to happen. The admin office gave me very easy to follow directions. His marker is located in a small middle of the road section near one of the far entrances.
